Mike white was injured, the New York Jets, for starters, have lost their quarterback.
Quarterback Mike White was injured as the Jets went on to lose 45-30 to the Colts.
The defense then crumbled.
The result was yet another dreadful prime-time performance, as the New York Jets were defeated 45-30 by the Indianapolis Colts.
The bigger question is whether the Jets will be able to find solutions before their next game on Nov. 14 against Buffalo.
The good news is that White’s injury, which was initially described as a forearm injury, does not appear to be serious.
White explained that he left because he couldn’t grip the ball because two of his fingers had gone numb.
“In the middle or late fourth quarter, he started to get some feeling back, but it was too late,” said coach Robert Saleh. “We are optimistic about his recovery over the weekend and next week.”
The Jets (2-6) weren’t the same after White watched the final three quarters from the sideline four days after making a historic starting debut with 405 yards passing and three touchdowns in a surprise win over the Bengals.
White’s replacement, Josh Johnson, led the Jets to one touchdown — a short field goal — before throwing three touchdown passes in the final 18 minutes to make the score more respectable.
Johnson set career highs for touchdown passes and yards in a single game with 317, but he was upset after throwing a late interception deep in Colts territory.
It would have been a one-score game if another touchdown had been scored.
“We had some challenging situations early on,” he explained. “I was upset because I missed some reads in the first drive.”
Many of the guys haven’t joined me in the huddle. We did some good things once I got into a rhythm.”
The more serious issue was seeing the league’s No. 7 run defense fall short of expectations.
Indianapolis rushed for 260 yards, the most in any NFL game this season, and averaged 8.7 yards per carry on 30 carries.
Carson Wentz took advantage of New York’s inability to contain Colts running backs Johnathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines by throwing three touchdown passes and only eight incompletions.

C.J. Mosley, a linebacker, said, “We have to focus on our job and what we need to do.” “We have to take our hard pill and prepare for the next game.”
That, however, was not the worst part of the evening.
While Saleh remains optimistic that White and rookie Zach Wilson (knee) will practice next week, the Jets may lose starting safety Marcus Maye to a season-ending injury.

Maye’s Achilles tendon, according to Saleh, has been injured.
“Losing Marcus, especially his leadership, will be a huge loss,” Mosley said.
Despite Johnson’s strong performance, the Jets are well aware that they cannot afford to keep losing quarterbacks.
“It was frustrating,” White said, “especially after the first two drives went so well.” “The season isn’t over yet.” If my number is called again, I believe I’ll be able to play.”
