Conor McGregor thinking about buying Chelsea from Abramovich

Chelsea’s future remains uncertain after owner Roman Abramovich attempted to transfer control of the club to the Blues’ charitable foundation. Rumours have circulated that the Russian may be looking to sell the club, with Conor McGregor emerging as an unlikely buyer.

Abramovich purchased Chelsea in 2003, but his ties to the Russian government, which launched an invasion of Ukraine, drew attention. On Saturday night, he responded with a statement.

“I have always viewed my role as a custodian of the club, whose job it is to ensure that we are as successful as we can be today, as well as build for the future, while also playing a positive role in our communities,” he said in a statement posted on Chelsea’s website.

“I’ve always made judgments in the best interests of the club. These are the values to which I am still dedicated. That is why I am entrusting Chelsea’s governance and care to the trustees of Chelsea’s nonprofit foundation today. I feel they are now in the best position to protect the club’s, players’, staff’s, and supporters’ interests.”

However, the charitable foundation’s trustees reported this to the Charity Commission in the United Kingdom, so Abramovich may have to find another solution. He might have one in Conor McGregor.

Why is Conor McGregor interested in purchasing Chelsea?

On Wednesday evening, the Irish MMA fighter confirmed his interest in owning the Premier League team.

“I’d like to investigate this,” he said in a tweet that included a screenshot of a WhatsApp chat in which he was promised Chelsea would be sold for £3 billion.

McGregor enjoys football. Despite the fact that Manchester United is his favorite club, he could be interested in forming a group to purchase the London club.

Is it possible for Conor McGregor to buy Chelsea?

Forbes named McGregor the world’s highest-paid athlete in 2021, but his total wealth isn’t thought to be close to the 3 billion pounds asking price.

If he is serious about buying Chelsea, he will have to do so as part of a group.
