Insight and Analysis: Chelsea vs Palmeiras Club World Cup Final Match Prediction
Chelsea vs Palmeiras Club World Cup Final Match Prediction, Preview, Hot Stats, Players to watch and Where to watch.
There’ll be a new name etched on the FIFA Club World Cup (CWC) trophy after Chelsea and Palmeiras both won their semi-finals ‘to nil’.
And now face each other for the right to call themselves the best club in the world.
Chelsea remain the only European team to lose a CWC final since 2006. So the ‘Blues’, who survived some nervy moments before beating Al Hilal 1-0 in their semi-final, could be feeling extra pressure.
Averaging just 1.2 goals per game across their last six competitive fixtures (W4, D1, L1), the Londoners have clearly had to battle for their results lately.
Given Chelsea’s out-of-form forward line, the fact that three of the last four CWC finals were decided by a single goal.
And that no Brazilian side has ever scored 2+ goals in a CWC final – gives this game the makings of another low-scoring affair.
Yet whilst just two of the last 11 showpieces went to extra-time, if this clash does go the distance, Chelsea might be encouraged as on both occasions the European side prevailed.
After winning their semi-final against Al Ahly 2-0 with a goal in each half, Palmeiras remain unbeaten in competitive action since late November (W7, D3).
They represent a significant threat to Europe’s recent domination in this competition after keeping a clean sheet in six of their last seven fixtures (W5, D1).
An extra day’s rest heading into this final might also help as they look to do what fellow Brazilian sides Grêmio (2017) and Flamengo (2019) couldn’t – beat a European outfit to win the title.
If they prevail, they’ll become the first Brazilian team to claim the CWC since 2012 when Corinthians beat none other than Chelsea in that year’s final!
